  • CCS Syringe Report for ECDS

Very Exciting!I have had the opportunity to test a new computer controlled syringe for the last 5 weeks. It was invented and developed by Windsorite, Dr. Mark Smith who now practices in London. In my opinion, it has many advantages over the current computer assisted syringe on the market. (The Wand)The advantages are:

    • no beeping
    • no foot pedal
    • cheaper per unit dose( 14 cents versus $1.30)
    • it is programable to various different flow rates, compared to only 2 speeds
    • cartridge of anesthetic is easily visible and aspiration is easy and quick

The CCS syringe will be marketed by Dentsply in the new year. It will do AMSA and PASA injections. The box has a digital readout to program the rate of flow in 2 phases. It is designed so that the first phase is a very slow drip for initial entry into the tissue. The second phase is programmed to be a little quicker to inject the main volume of the cartridge.

The second picture shows the handpiece and the cartridge and needle attached (it will take any size standard needle). To reload after the first cartridge used, simply undo the plastic sheath from the handpiece and insert a new cartridge, which takes not much more time than a normal syringe.

The third picture (sorry it is blurry) shows the 2 buttons on the handpiece. The red/green button is the start/stop button and the 2X/A button is the aspiration button but also acts to double the programmed speed if you want to increase the rate while injecting. The beauty of the device is that it is light, held in a dart grasp, and is controlled with the fingertip.

My patients have all remarked at how absolutely painless this delivery system is. My experience with this and the other product on the market would favour the CCS hands down! Look for it when it comes out, or better yet, contact a Dentsply rep to get one to you.

      Submitted respectfully,
      Charlie Morgan
